Doors and Windows

My boyfriend of three years and I are planning on building a house together next year. As we are both young and have only just started our full time careers, we have agreed that we will spend the whole next year saving and then we will put a deposit on a property and build a house. My boyfriend is a carpenter and so he will be able to do a significant amount of the build himself, which will obviously do wonders for us when it comes to saving money.

I am going to be responsible for the interior design, which I am really excited about. I’m really into the intricate details that make a house a home, and two of the biggest things that I think help make this distinction are the doors and windows in a home. One of the first focal pieces in our home will be a large window in the living room. I am so excited for when we finally get to the point that we can do an awning window installation. At that point in the build, we will really see our home come to life. I get shivers just thinking about it.

Even though I’m pretty much in charge of what our home will look like from the inside, I am confirming all my decisions with my boyfriend. I want him to feel as comfortable in our home as possible, and I think that will be a direct result of being included in the decision making. My boyfriend has agreed with all my interior design decisions, bar one. He wasn’t a fan of the front door that I picked out, and suggested a door frame replacement. Melbourne has plenty of places that I can visit to find the perfect front door, so I was really unfazed by him wanting to go in a different direction. Our home is going to be incredible and I am so looking forward to spending the rest of my life with my boyfriend.
